Frequently Asked Questions
What programs do you offer?
We currently offer Preschool for ages 2-5, Homeschool Support and Enrichment for elementary school children K-5th grade, and summer camp for ages 2-5th grade.
Can I enroll in preschool without being obligated to enroll in homeschool support later on?
Of course! Preschool is a great foundation for learning whether you are choosing traditional school or homeschool for your child. Our preschool offers the best of both environments so your child will be well prepared for Kindergarten either way.
How do I enroll in Homeschool Support?
You must register with NC as a homeschool, and officially withdraw from public school (if your child is enrolled). Do not register Great Wide Open as your school when you register with the state. You are required by NC to have a name for your own school, with you as teacher/principal.
We recommend registering for Homeschool Support/Enrichment with Great Wide Open before registering with the state as a homeschool family to make sure we have an opening for your child. You then choose one of the class options: M-F 9:00-1:00 or M-F 9:00-3:00. You provide GWO with the curriculum of your choice or send in your child’s lesson plans weekly. The teachers here will facilitate and guide your child with whatever school work you provide. We are here to help make this process easy and are happy to assist in any way. Please feel free to call with any questions or to set up a time to meet to discuss further.
How do I register for any of your programs, can I register online?
We do not currently offer online registration. We are a small school and prefer to have people register in person. When you come for a tour you will receive a complete information packet which will also contain all forms needed to register for any of our programs.
Where do I find cost/fee information?
You may call during office hours (M-F 8:00-4:00) or email us and we will answer any questions regarding costs for our programs.
Where are you located?
We are in the Unionville area near Hwy. 601, close to Monroe, NC in Union County.
Why can’t I find your physical address on the website?
We do not publish our address for safety reasons. We have lots of children in our care each day and do not want to have unannounced strangers drop in at any time during the day. We also cannot take time away from the children to do un-scheduled tours for people who drop in. If you would like to visit our school we are happy to give you the address when you call to schedule a time to tour.
Of course, we do have an open door policy for enrolled families so parents are welcome to come by any time during the school day.
Since you are Homeschool Support, are you a religious program?
No, we are not a religious program nor are we affiliated with any religion. We teach kindness and respect for all, and let individual families teach their children religion as they choose.
